I. Council Office Access and Utilization
- Access to the council office shall be restricted by means of unique door codes distributed by the Director of Administration with the approval of the President
- No community access code shall be created or distributed
- Access codes must be kept confidential and shall not be shared
- Individuals who are not a recognized voting or recognized non-voting member of council may not possess or have knowledge of an access code, unless otherwise specified herein
- Custodial services shall have one access code, restricted to the necessary time frame they may require.
- There shall be two levels of access, limited and unlimited, restricting the time frame in which an individual may enter the office
- Those with limited access may enter after 7:30am but no later than 5:00pm during week days
- Those with unlimited access may enter at any time building access is available
- Determination of level of access shall be made by the President and the Director of Administration on a case by case basis
- The order of precedence of utilization of council resources shall be:
- Directors conducting official council business
- Members of council conducting official council business
- Members of council studying
- Members of council engaging in other activities
- Students of the J.B. Speed School of Engineering
- All individuals receiving a door code must sign an agreement acknowledging the rules and regulations governing council office access and utilization
- Failure to comply with regulations regarding office access and utilization shall result in suspension and/or revocation of council office access
II. Society Funding
- Student Council shall only one recurring event per fiscal year
- Speed Student Council shall not provide more than $300 in funding to any society during a given academic year.
- Speed Student Council shall not provide more than $100 in funding to any society during a given academic semester.
- Speed Student Council shall not fund a society who has failed to maintain the requirements to become a recognized member society. [minimum: 80% attendance over the previous two semesters.]
- Speed Student Council shall not fund a society that has not first exhausted funding from other university sources, including but not limited to:
- Department Chair(s)
- Office of the Dean
- SGA Student Senate
- Office of Student Life
- Speed Student Council shall reserve the right not to fund a request for any reason, including reasons not enumerated in these regulations. Funding for societies is not a part of the Speed Student Council annual budget.
- SSSC will not fund a society that is not in good standing.
III. Freshman Council
- Membership
- An unspecified number of first year Speed School of Engineering students shall be appointed by the president with advice and consent of SSSC (“Speed School Student Council.”) for one year terms as voting members of the Freshman Council.
- A non-voting advisor shall be selected by the Freshman Council. The advisor shall be an upper classman with special consideration given to past members of the Board of Directors.
- Officers
- A president shall be selected by the freshman council to preside over all meetings and serve as a liaison to SSSC.
- A vice-president shall be selected by freshman council to preside in the absence of the president. The vice-president shall also record attendance and keep the minutes of the freshman council, regularly transmitting both to the Director of Administration.
- Other offices may be created, appointed and dissolved as the Freshman Council sees fit.
- Procedure
- Appointments shall be completed no later than the 5th week of the fall semester. Thereafter new members shall be added by majority vote of the Freshman Council.
- The first meeting of the freshman council shall be called to order by the SSSC President. The order of business shall include the election of officers and selection of an advisor. Once completed, the SSSC President will relinquish the chair to the newly elected freshman council president.
- Seek out and propose activities or initiatives to improve student life at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering.
- Plan, organize and execute a fall picnic and “cheap lunch” events.
- Advise freshman representatives on SSSC of issues relating to freshmen.
- Work to encourage involvement of freshman in student council, student societies, and other on-campus organizations
- The freshman council will seek out and perform community service on or off campus
IV. W.S. Speed Award
- Any student that has or is graduating in the current academic year with their terminal Speed School of Engineering Degree may be nominated for the W.S. Speed Award
- No student may be nominated for the W.S. Speed Award more than one time.
- Nominations must be opened by the first meeting of February, and voting must be concluded by the last meeting of February.
- Any student nominated in the 2007 Academic Year may be nominated again in the 2008 Academic Year.
